Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a late century system of Yoga that was developed by Pattabhi Jois, based on the teachings of his teacher Sri T. Krishnamacharya, beginning in 1927.
Ashtanga Yoga is an ancient yoguic system, explained by sage Patanjali in his Yoga Sutras, the fundamental scripture to this system dated aproximately 2700 ago. "Asht" means "eight" and "anga" means "limb", meaning a yoguic system based in eight technical groups. "Vinyasa" means "sincronicity", the "flow" in between breath and movement system. For each movement there is one breath.
The purpose of vinyasa is for internal cleansing. Breathing and moving together as performing asanas warms up the blood system. Thick blood accumulates impurities and results as disease in the body. The heat created in the practice cleans the blood and makes it thin, so that it may circulate freely around the joints, taking away body pain. When there is a lack of circulation, pain occurs. The heated blood also moves inside the internal organs, removing impurities and disease, which are brought out of the body the sweat that occurs during the practice. Sweat is an important by product of vinyasa, because it is only through sweat that disease leaves the body and purification occurs. After the body is purified, it is possible to purify the nervous system, the sense organs, and mind.
